Post-coup purge in Turkey extends to universities
YÖK asked all the
rectors to investigate their academic and administrate staff's
relation to so-called “parallel terrorist organization” (FETÖ)
allegedly led by Fetullah Gülen. YÖK demands evaluations about the
staff to be sent to them until August 5.
YÖK issued another order banning all academics from going abroad for scientific studies. It also asked rectors to recall the ones who are currently abroad, if their stay is not necessary.
Demand of resignation of 1577 deans
YÖK also asked 1577 university deans to resign. Moreover, Minister of Education suspended 15,2000 officials. Accused of being a member of so-called “FETÖ”, they will be investigated.
Purge in prime minister's office and directorate of religious affairs
257 officials working in prime minister's office are also suspended. According to Anadolu Agency, 230 of them are rapporteurs, 19 of them are experts, 6 of them are councilors and 2 of them are legal councilors.
In directorate of religious affairs, 492 people are suspended.
