Paraguay officially recognized the Armenian Genocide
The Senate of the Republic of Paraguay approved a resolution that officially recognizes the Armenian Genocide.
Approved on October 29, the resolution was tabled by Progressive Democratic Party.
The resolution reads: “The Senate of the Republic of Paraguay recognizes the genocide that Armenians suffered between 1915 and 1923 at the hands of Turkish-Ottoman Empire and commemorates this crime against humanity on its 100th anniversary.”
Erivan immediately commented on the recognition of the genocide by Paraguay. Armenian parliament’s spokesperson Eduard Sharmazanov said, “There is no prescription for genocide. Fighting against this crime is the responsibility of the humanity.”
Paraguay is the 6th country on South America that recognizes the genocide. Brazil, Bolivia, Argentina, Uruguay and Venezuela recognized the genocide before in their parliaments.
