Faruk Sarı: I hadn’t been informed

Faruk Sarı stated that Engin Dinç, the chief before him, had never talked about Yasin Hayal and his friends and he hadn’t received any information about the plans for murder.

Here are the highlights from Sarı’s defence:

“I was told that they need personnel in Trabzon and assigned to the office. When I came to Trabzon, Engin Dinç was still incumbent and I hadn’t worked for a while. I met with Dinç from time to time and he informed me about the way the department works and the personnel. He never talked about anything specific.”

“We helped Istanbul Branch”

“On the day of murder, when the name of Yasin Hayal was mentioned, Yasin Hayal and his circle got detained. In order to help Istanbul Branch, we sent him to Istanbul with the police officers who questioned him and searched through his house.”

“Erhan Tuncel was working for the gendarme”

“Erhan Tuncel had been followed since 2006 upon the order of Engin Dinç. He had been giving misleading information about the people he had been seeing. It was found out that he was meeting with gendarme personnel. We dismissed him because he was lying, playing both sides and not providing information.”

“Gendarme personnel has more information”

“I deny the accusation of being a member of an armed terrorist organization. I worked my state for years.”

“The gendarme forces are in charge of the area where the murder was planned. In the ongoing investigation on the gendarme personnel, it is found out that they have more information concerning the scouting activities and weaponing.”

The hearing will continue tomorrow and Hasan Durmuşoğlu, vice chief of Trabzon General Directorate of Security Intelligence Branch, will present his defence.
