Dink case waits for the Supreme Court
Hrant Dink case is continued to be tried by 5th High Penal Court. Dink family’s lawyers Hakan Bakırcıoğlu, Bahri Belen, İsmail Cem Halavurt, Emel Ataktürk, Sebu Aslangil, Esra Salamanlı and Melike Polat attended the hearing, whereas the suspects weren’t present.

The footages taken from the cameras around Agos shows a person and it is tried to be determined whether he is Osman Hayal, the brother of Yasin Hayal who has been tried as the perpetrator of the murder. The court sent the footage to TÜBİTAK (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey) and they reported that they cannot determine whether he is Osman Hayal or not. However, TÜBİTAK sent the improved version of the footage to the court.
Ahmet İskender in Belgium
After the Supreme Court dismissed the case, the court issued an arrest warrant against suspect Ahmet İskender who hadn’t been attending the hearings. The court received a report which states that Ahmet İskender resides in Belgium.
The cases should be joined
Speaking at the hearing, one of Dink family’s lawyers Hakan Bakırcıoğlu said that the case that was opened against the public officials should be joined with the ongoing main case. He also added that there is another case for revealing the organization behind Hrant Dink murder and it is consistent with the investigation on the public officials. Bakırcıoğlu demanded that the court wait for the Supreme Court’s decision on which court should try the case that was opened against the public officials and ask the progression of the investigation on the organization to the Prosecution Office.
Bakırcıoğlu also said that the footage should be sent to the Forensic Medicine Institute for determining whether it is Osman Hayal on the footage and that Ogün Samast, who wrote a petition to the court in order to attend the hearings, should be present at the hearings.
The court waits for the Supreme Court
The court decided to send the footage to the Forensic Medicine Institute for determining whether it is Osman Hayal on the footage.
The court rejected the demand of transferring Ogün Samast to Istanbul and decided that he could come to the next hearing from where he is now. The court also decided to wait for the Supreme Court’s decision on which court should try the case that was opened against the public officials.
The court asked for information from the Prosecution Office about the progression of the investigation on the organization.
The court decided that Erhan Tuncel ban on leaving the country to be continued and the necessary papers to be translated to Belgian, since Ahmet İskender might be found in Belgium.
The next hearing will be held on March 24, 2016.
