Dink case continues with the cross examination of Akyürek

The case against public officials, including Ramazan Akyürek, Celalettin Cerrah, Ahmet İlhan Güler and Engiç Dinç continues in Istanbul.

Ramazan Akyürek, who worked as the chief of General Directorate of Security of Trabzon before the murder and as the chief of Security General Directorate Intelligence Branch during murder, had presented his defence in the previous hearings. The court started the cross examination today.

“We hadn't informed the gendarme personnel”

The chief judge asked whether they had informed the gendarme personnel about the intelligence report revealing Yasin Hayal's plans for murder.

Akyürek said that it was Engin Dinç's responsibility, who said that there was no need for informing the gendarme personnel. He also said that they decided to send a notice to Istanbul. Akyürek stated: “I see that every one blames each other here.”

“We didn't think that we had to send another notice to Istanbul”

The chief judge asked why they didn't inform Istanbul branch about the later developments. Akyürek said: “The information about Dink was serious. We all agree on this fact, except from the friends from Istanbul branch. I acted in accordance with the directions of Engin Dinç. He provided some trivial information about Yasin Hayal and we didn't think that we had to send another notice to Istanbul.”

He also said that they received another report informing that Yasin Hayal might give up his plans for murder and they didn't inform Istanbul about this report either.

The examination of Akyürek will continue.
