Ceasefire in Colombia to end on October 31

The ceasefire between the Colombian government and FARC will expire at end of October, according to President Juan Manuel Santos. After the peace agreement with FARC was refused in the referendum, Santos announced that the ceasefire will end on October 31. It is still unknown what will happen after October 31 and how the process will go on. 

Santos sent the negotiation committee to Cuban capital Havana for continuing the meetings with FARC.

Known as “Timoşenko”, FARC leader Timolean Jimenez asked via his Twitter account: “What will happen afterwards? Will the war go on?”

The government wants to come to terms with the opposition

Leading the campaign against the peace agreement, senator and former president Alvaro Uribe demands the content of the agreement is changed on the ground that the government is “going easy with FARC guerrillas”. It is expected that President Santos will meet with Uribe today for discussing this issue. The government formed another committee for negotiating with the opposition that refuses the agreement.
