The ceremony at the Akhtamar is cancelled
The ceremony that was planned to be conducted on September 6 in The Church of the Holy Cross on Akhtamar Island is cancelled due to security concerns. Many people from Armenia and Armenian Diaspora was expected to attend the ceremony that has been conducted since 2011.

Vicken Cheterian: Kurds replaced the Armenians
Journalist and historian Vicken Cheterian wrote a book which assesses the effects of Armenian genocide on global politics, academic research, Kurdish question, Turkish and Armenian societies during the process that has been going on for 100 years. Focusing mainly on the post genocide period, Open Wounds: Armenians, Turks, and a Century of Genocide considers Hrant Dink’s assassination as a milestone.

Municipality withdraws support from Science Congress for using the term ‘Genocide’
The Karaburun Municipal Directorate has withdrawn its support to the 10th Karaburun Science Congress because of the use of the term “1915 Armenian and Assyrian Genocide” in its call for attendance.

Brazil recognizes Armenian Genocide, Turkey Foreign Ministry summons Brazilian Ambassador
The Foreign Ministry of Turkey published a letter of condemnation after the Federal Senate of Brazil passed a resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide. Turkey has also recalled its Ambassador to Brazil for talks.

Rakel Dink: A Century of Genocide
Rakel Dink, in the article titled ‘A Century of Genocide’ she wrote for the April 24, 2015, issue of Cumhuriyet newspaper, relates what befell her family and relatives in 1915, how she met Hrant Dink, and the struggles they put up together: Today, first at Balıklı, at my Çutak’s grave, then in Şişli, at Sevag’s grave, and finally, in Taksim Square, to commemorate the ones we lost during the 1915 Genocide, I will silently wait for this country to become free.

Gauck: Fate of Armenians example of genocide history
The German President Joachim Gauck spoke following mass held at the Berlin Cathedral in commemoration of the genocide of Armenians, Assyrians and Pontic Greeks. Gauck defined 1915 as genocide, and also underlined Germany’s role in the events.

Germany expected to officially say ‘Armenian Genocide’
Group leaders of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU/CSU) and the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD), the two parties that form the coalition government in Germany, have reportedly agreed to use the expressions ‘the fate of the Armenians constitutes an example of the history of deportation an genocide’ in the ‘Armenian Resolution’ to be presented on April 24, 2015, Friday, at the German Federal Assembly. The government is also expected to back the resolution.

24 April statement from Prime Minister’s Office
The Prime Minister’s Office of the Republic of Turkey has published an official statement on the eve of 24 April. The statement concludes with the words “…we once more commemorate with deep respect the Ottoman Armenians who lost their lives during the relocation in 1915 and we share in the grief of their children and grandchildren.”

Pope is ‘slanderer’, says Speaker of the Parliament Çiçek
Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Cemil Çiçek, has made a statement regarding Pope Francis’s words during the commemoration mass held for the victims of the Armenian Genocide, saying “It is unacceptable for someone occupying that seat to cast such slander. What the Pope has done constitutes slander”. President of the Directorate of Religious Affairs Mehmet Görmez, on the other hand, claimed that the Pope had made his statements on the Genocide under the influence of lobbies and PR companies.

Did the Muslim Brotherhood burn 1915 documents?
Media in Armenia and the Diaspora have been rocked by the claim of Nabil Na’eem, the founder of the Democratic Jihad Party in Egypt, who stated that the Muslim Brotherhood received a payment from Turkey to incinerate documents related to the Armenian Genocide. There was a fire at the building where the documents are held; however Armenians in Egypt treat the claims with caution.

New Suleyman Shah tomb location on 1915 deportation route
Following the evacuation on the night of 21 February Saturday by military operation of the Suleyman Shah Tomb and the affiliated Commemoration Station, the only piece of land that belongs to Turkey that lies outside of its borders, attention is now focused on the Eşme region in Syria, officially announced as the new location for the tomb.
